A custom education for every child

For children ages 4-17

Modulo is an online learning platform where our trained tutors work with small groups of 1-5 children with math, reading, social and emotional skills and much more. Every plan is flexible and can range from 2-3 hours a day to a full-day/full week of classes and activities to keep kids engaged while parents work. Teachers are highly trained in child-centered communication, effective collaboration with families and best practices for online teaching.

  • Small group tutoring: Each plan includes small group and 1-1 tutoring online, combined with adaptive learning apps to help track progress and make sure your child is learning at the ideal rate for them.

  • Social Interaction: Students are assigned to a core peer group (of no more than 5 children) facilitated by a child life specialist that meets at least twice a week - and can participate in a large array of electives to encourage healthy social development and nurture friendships. Children often meet daily with friends for their Kids Club for playdates or collaborative learning. Families can also request new electives based on special interests.

  • Collaborative support team: Your child’s teachers and designated learning specialist work together in collaboration with parents to optimize each child’s learning outcomes, social-emotional development and foster their love of learning. We communicate regularly throughout the week to ensure we are all aligned in supporting your child’s well being and intellectual development.

  • Child-centered communication: All our teachers are trained in child-centered communication (as well as innovative teaching techniques) to create a mutual environment of respect and inclusion, inspire confidence, nurture emotional health and foster intrinsic motivation.

  • Mindful approach to technology. Our teachers are expressly trained in best practices for online teaching and in helping children navigate technology. Teachers create meaningful online experiences that allow for healthy peer-to-peer interaction, physical activity breaks and help children use technology in a balanced and productive manner. We recommend hardware and software that will allow your kids to remain physically engaged while learning online.

  • Community of families and teachers passionate about personalized learning. We have vibrant discussions in slack, host monthly meetups and share ideas and advice. Families can also host clubs or share skills.

“Our daughter has really thrived in this environment. She's liking it far better than her in-person school, she's made many new friends, and her learning has been dramatically accelerated. “

— Jeremy H, San Francisco

Personalized curriculum

The Modulo team helps each family develop a custom educational plan drawing on mastery-based, secular curriculum designed to support independents study and parent or caregiver-led instruction. These plans generally only require 1-2 hours a day of study, leaving lots of time for play and self-directed learning. Families can also search our curated directory of over 300 vetted resources for free to get recommendations based on their child’s learning style, strengths and goals.

Small group tutoring

Each child participates in math and language arts tutoring (combined with adaptive learning specialists) and is matched with a peer group, facilitated by a child life specialist to ensure healthy social development. We have an unlimited amount of electives to choose from based on your child’s interests, ranging from foreign language to minecraft club. Depending on parent availability, your child can participate from 5-40 hours a week in our online program.

“Modulo has provided a creative, fun outlet for our 6 and 4 year olds to connect with other kids, and learn through a custom education plan tailored for them. During the COVID pandemic, we are homeschooling our kids, and Modulo has made it possible for them to really enjoy the process!" We’ve especially appreciated the help with curriculum selection and planning; the amount of content available online is overwhelming, so the experience and guidance of the Modulo teachers was critical in giving us the confidence to homeschool this year.”

— Karmel and David, Los Angeles

“We adore our daughter’s teacher! She is one of those very special forever teachers who is highly skilled and adept at teaching and inspiring small children. My four-year-old wakes up on weekdays eager and ready to go to class! She is also super dedicated to supporting the parents and families at Modulo. We are deeply grateful to her and Modulo. They are a reliable and trusted source of support, information, and community in these surreal times."

— Jennifer L., Fredericksburg, Virginia

“Modulo offers an à la carte set of experiences that was easy to fit into our (constantly changing) plan for ensuring that our kids continued to learn at a high level.  The adaptability has been great: kids are pleasantly surprised to find out they have real agency in directing their own curriculum.  The teaching is excellent and, as importantly in a remote environment, highly engaging. It has been a great place for kids to make real and interesting friends all over the country and for parents to build a supportive learning community.”
