Getting into college as a homeschooler

This workshop took place on August 29, 2024. Here is the video recording. After graduating from Stanford, Henry went on to work in admissions and ultimately decided to found YourEDU to support homeschoolers in navigating high school and getting into the college of their dreams. Since then he’s interviewed dozens of admissions officers across the country, as well as successful homeschoolers and unschoolers who got accepted at the most elite colleges and universities. In this interview facilitated by Modulo co-founder, Manisha Snoyer, Henry walks us through his own experience getting into college, the unique advantages (and potential pitfalls) of being a homeschooler when it comes to college admissions, what projects and extracurriculars homeschoolers might want to focus on, what materials homeschoolers need for their applications, and which colleges and universities that are particularly keen to accept students with a unique educational path.

About the Workshop

Are you a homeschool family thinking about getting into college?

Or considering homeschooling and wondering how this impacts your child’s chances of getting into college?

We’re thrilled to welcome Henry Hill-Gorman, a lifelong homeschooler and recent Stanford graduate for this special live interview with Modulo founder, Manisha Snoyer. In this interview facilitated by Modulo co-founder, Manisha Snoyer, Henry will walk us through his own experience getting into college, the unique advantages (and potential pitfalls) of being a homeschooler when it comes to college admissions, what projects and extracurriculars homeschoolers might want to focus on, what materials homeschoolers need for their applications, and which colleges and universities that are particularly keen to accept students with a unique educational path. Last but not least, workshop participants will get early access to a free pilot program YourEDU is offering this fall to support  homeschool students through the college admissions process.

We’ll leave a large portion of the conversation open to Q&A so families can get all their questions answered about getting into college.

Henry Hill-Gorman

Henry Hill-Gorman, founder of YourEDU, was homeschooled before recently graduating from Stanford University with his bachelors and master's degrees. His company, YourEDU, is dedicated to providing educational access and support specifically tailored to high school homeschool families. Henry's motivation to start the business was borne out of his own experience applying to college as a homeschooler and subsequent work in college admissions, and YourEDU is fortunate to be supported by Stanford's startup accelerator. Henry also has a love for teaching, and during his time at Stanford he received some of the highest teacher reviews from his students for any TA across campus. Henry is originally from Madison, WI, and currently travels the country working with homeschool families and college admissions offices.

Manisha has personally consulted with thousands of parents, including some of the tech world’s leading entrepreneurs and investors, gaining deep insights into the needs and concerns of those educating their children at home. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Brandeis University.
