Vincent's Starry Night and Other Stories
Updated on July 12, 2023
This book does a wonderful job telling the stories of 68 different artists and their works from different times and countries all around the world. This book is a fantastic way to learn art history. Through both beautiful illustration and words, it tells engaging tales about many artists from all over the world. It conveys how artists throughout 40,000 years of history, from cave paintings to the present, created their works. Michael Bird said he wished ' to capture... the moment of making, the mix of... materials, ambitions and even crazy accidents that results in art. The stories are based on historical facts - but... they also work as stories in their own right.' This book is perfect for reading along with, or reading aloud to your children. Parents who have read along with their children love the engaging nature of the stories and illustrations. If you are up for some hands on creativity the book can be a great inspiration for new art projects and styles. The one complaint parents have had, is that out of 68 artists only 7 are women. Thus while the book does include artists from all over the world, it may be important to supplement this book to further highlight female artists.
